I am always hesitant to read a new author and new series as I have no idea if the cost will be a good investment. In this case, it was. I read quite a bit of urban fantasy, paranormal fantasy and some paranormal romance. I really liked this book. I thought the idea of a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter was very imaginative. I liked the way it started out at Xandra's 19th birthday party which is to be her "coming out" party as a witch. She has been practicing spells all her life for this moment when her latent powers are to come to fruition. But unfortunately her powers don't manifest and she runs into the night disgraced and humiliated. She encounters Declan Chumomisto a powerful and attractive warlock. They spend an evening together and she feels he is the only one who really understands her. Then we fast forward to eight years later where Xandra has moved away from her powerful witch and warlock family. She owns her own coffee shop and she has never heard from Declan after that one night. One evening along with her roommate and friend, Lily, she goes on a blind date to see a magician and low and behold Declan is the main attraction in more ways than one. But a compulsion comes over her and she is forced to leave the show to track through the city for reasons unknown to her and her compulsion leads her to a dead girl floating in the water. From there on Xandra has to come to terms that her magic is no longer latent but not at all what she expected her powers to be.I found the book to be quite entertaining and at times down right creepy. I found the whole compulsion power to be freaky and disturbing. I love books that creep me out. I didn't find this to be young adult at all as one reviewer commented. Maybe she didn't read the entire book. Xandra's character starts out as 19 but after chapter one it is eight years later and she is 27. I thought it had an intriguing story line. I liked Xandra's character and I liked the secondary characters, her friend Lily, her brother Donavon and of course Declan. Her mom was a hoot as was Salima, the witch her mother sends to Xandra to help her unlock her latent magic. I already have book two in my to buy list. I liked this new series. I am looking forward to more of Xandra's magic and how it will grow and develop. Overall, I found it to be a very enjoyable read. I am very excited to have found a new series!

Soulbound A Lone Star Witch Novel Tessa Adams 9780451415042 Books Reviews
I read this book in 2 days, could not put it down. It grabbed me right from the start and kept going. I loved the characters, the story, everything. It had me thinking the evil guy was someone completely different then it was. I love that in a book. Really looking forward to the next in the series. This was a new author for me and I cannot believe it took me so long to buy and enjoy this book.
This was a great book with lots of good description. This author is very good at giving you the whole picture though some of the dialogue seemed a little unreal. Over all though I would recommend this book!
Really good story and characters. Occasionally bogged down in mental gymnastics but a great read. Waiting for the next one,
This book does a good job of setting up a reality not very different from our own. The lives within, and trials gone through create a thrilling read, full of romance, new/old power, shocking truths and a powerful heroine coming to grips with who she is.
Loved how Tessa Adams wrote the family dynamic in this book. I wish more of it would have played out through out the entire book. The romance is nice. World building is so-so, I thought the owning your own coffee house thing was kind of cheesy and doesn't really work right with the tone she started.
I like the concept for this book. It starts out interesting enough but quickly loses steam. There is too much of a focus on Xandra's missing magic. You find out why it never appeared but it's something that should have been thought of in all the years people tried to figure out why Xandra was latent. The plot just kept repeating itself over and over with no new information given. It grew boring and I ended up skipping through pages in the last 1/3 of the book. The ending was decent enough without a blatantly obvious conclusion. However there was no epilogue. It just ended and I felt cheated. I will try the next book when it comes out.
This is relatively my first book review so I'm sorry if it's a little choppy.
Xandra Morgan just wants to be a normal woman with a normal life. Unfortunately, things don't always go the way you want them to. Xandra is the seventh daughter of the Ipswitch royal witch family and since the day she was born she was expected to have great power. To her mothers dismay Xandra is without magic and tries constantly to "fix" her latent powers. When Xandra heads home for a family gathering she feels a pull that leads her to discover a woman's dead body that she dreamed of the night before. Leaving her very confused as to what is going on. As the bodies start pilling up, in comes Declan Chumomisto, a 200 year old warlock that she met one night when she was nineteen.
Xandra and Declan are bound in a deep way and even though Declan is much older that her, I like that they are trying to figure out their romance despite their connection.
This book is a supernatural, suspenseful, mystery and it kept me engrossed from page one. It was a little confusing in the beginning being in Xandra's head but after that it was smooth sailing to the end. I give it 4.5 stars only because there are a few things I would have liked explained a little bit more and I do hope they get touched on in the next book. Besides that though, the uniqueness of the story and the characters kept me captivated until the very end.
Keep in mind that this book does have some dark content to it including sexual violence and torture of a serial killer for those of you who do not like that, but in my opinion; it is not as bad as some other books I have read. I very much enjoyed the first book in the Lone Star Witch series and will be beating down my mailman... (Uh... downloads) in December for Vengeance Bound, the second book in the series.
